On December 23, 2024, Beacon Broadband, a fiber broadband internet provider located in Brookings, OR, signed with GEOGRAPH. Beacon Broadband was established in 2020 by Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative (CCEC) to bring high-speed internet to underserved rural communities in Southern Oregon. Beacon Broadband was looking for a partner with a deep understanding of the electric cooperative industry and an easy-to-use Esri-based solution.
Beacon Broadband’s story begins over 83 years ago with the founding of CCEC. CCEC was established by Ivan Laird and other pioneers to bring electricity to the underserved rural areas in Coos and Curry counties, where private companies had failed to reach. In 2020, CCEC observed that these same rural communities faced a similar lack of access to high-speed internet, hindering the Southern Oregon coast from the economic opportunities created by advanced broadband services.
